Everybody’s Working for the Weekend by Loverboy

August 31, 2008 - 9:10 pm No Comments

It’s Labor Day weekend, so I finally got some off. I’ve been working everyday (weekends included) since the 4th of July holiday. I can’t believe it’s already September. Now as for this song, I’m sure I heard it watching the movie Top Gun. It was also an SNL sketch with the late Chris Farley and Patrick Swayze auditioning to be Chippendales dancers.

Afraid by Nelly Furtado

I like the chorus on this song. The album is pretty good and this song could of have been a single. Unlike the song “Do It” I’m sure the beat wasn’t “stolen” from another source by producer Timbaland. I gotta admit I do like Timbaland’s beats but my respect for him went down a notch after reading and listening to the accusations of plaigarism. With hip-hop sampling is almost a given but at least give credit where credit is due.

Dead Disco by Metric

August 18, 2008 - 10:48 pm No Comments

Been constantly tired, but it’s the good tiredness. I do plan to go on a vacation next month though, I know I don’t update as much but I’m still dancing to disco. I heard these guys on Pandora. There’s talk that Pandora might be forced to shut down due to the fact that the RIAA wants more royalty for streaming music. That would suck. Anyway, this song is nice, they’re Canadian. Have a listen.

Mushaboom (Postal Service Remix) by Feist

May 28, 2008 - 11:47 pm No Comments

I was listening to this song pretty much all day. This and another Feist song entitled “One Evening” (VV Remix). They can be found on the Open Season CD, which is a remix CD. The original are good but I like the remixes better, they add a little more pop. I wanted to feature the VV remix of One Evening but could only find the original on YouTube. So here’s the Postal Service remix of Mushaboom. Feist of course is probably best known for 1234 which was the song for the new third generation iPod Nano ad. So the reason why I discovered this song was that a coworker was going on vacation and she has a ridicously long flight of 20 hours so she needed some songs to keep her occupied. Her 2g iPod Nano holds 4gb and she used 500mb. So  like the Pandora music service, she told me some of her favorite artists (India.Arie) and I filled her iPod up with songs that I thought she would like. I got the feeling she was into independent women singers. So hence, I rediscovered Feist. I remember Feist because Banana Republic would always play her songs.

Take Me to the Riot by Stars

I chose this song because the band is Canadian, and I happen to be going to Canada. It’s also been one of my favorites recently. I actually heard it from Pandora, which is an awesome Internet radio service. I created a station that was similar to Nada Surf and they recommended another song from Stars. I looked them up and discovered this awesome song you have here. Wow, it sounds very haunting with the piano and then when the chorus hits with the cymbals it’s like a wave of emotions. When it comes to songs I’ll listen to a song over and over, I won’t even listen to other tracks on the album. Same goes for this one, I’m sure In Our Bedroom After the War has other good tracks, but for now all I want you to do is take me, take me to the riot.
