Wind Beneath My Wings by Bette Midler

I saw Kung Fu Panda over the weekend and it made me cry. It’s a good movie. I cried because of the father-son relationship in that movie. The panda wanted to be a Kung Fu master while his dad had aspiration for him to take over the noodle shop. Happy Father’s Day. Dad, you’re my hero.

Somebody by Depeche Mode

Depeche Mode is perhaps #5 on my all time favorite bands. Classics I like include songs such as Strangelove, People Are People, It’s No Good, and Enjoy the Silence. Their last stuff isn’t that great, but at least they have a really good song with Precious. 4 decades of Depeche Mode music. That’s a long time. But I think this song is a great love song even for a hardcore band like Depeche Mode. Pretty much sums up everything I look for in a girl. =) Now if I can only find her. Who knows, I may have already met her.

Please Don’t Go Girl by New Kids on the Block

I’m bummed today. At work I was moving things from the old building to the new building and one of those things was an iMac, which I was lazy so I wasn’t careful. The base of the iMac dugged into my shirt and ripped 2 holes in my favorite T-shirt. It’s a Gap Product (RED) shirt that says Explored, made out of African cotton. Aww, I wish my mom was still here to patch the holes for me. Sigh. I miss my mom so much…..but I guess I’ll just have to drive up an hour and a half to visit her. Haha, I guess that bit doesn’t really work too well in written form. They did it HIMYM and The Simpsons too (the one where Lisa is dreaming it’s the future and she’s getting married to Hugh Grant, or at least a character based on his voice). Anyways it’s just a shirt.

So supposedly it’s huge news that New Kids on the Block are getting back together and planning a new CD and tour. I missed all that NKOTB hype. I didn’t get a radio until late ‘91, and at the time I only listened to the urban radio stations (rap, r&b). Anyway years later I do remember hearing this song. I just did a listen of their greatest hits album, and this song would be my favorite. I also liked “If You Go Away” and “You Got the Right Stuff”. I’m not saying I’m a NKOTB fan, I just like some of their songs. 80’s music will always be number one on my list.

Impossible by Shout Out Louds

Felt like summer this weekend. The thing that sucks is that my car is out in the sun all day long (street parking) and I left my sunglasses on the passenger seat and you can guess what happened next. Even the steering wheel felt too hot to touch. But hot weather is good. It means girls wear less clothes and show more skin. =) Ha. This song here is a incredibly beautiful song, perfect for a summer evening. Fittingly it came out last summer and has the lyrics “I don’t want to feel like it’s an end of a summer”. It’s a breakup song though, and it reminds a bit of The Cure. Shout Out Louds is a band from the country that brought us IKEA (which by the way is the world’s largest manufacturer and an exclusive furnisher for my apartment). So anyway, the summer line is a metaphor for an end of a relationship. A relationship that a guy is trying to forget but can’t. He thought she was the one, but she just wanted to have fun and wasn’t ready for a serious thing. Word of wisdom at the end of the song: “Stay out of love until you’re ready, stay out of it ’cause it scares you.”

This Years Love by David Gray

April 10, 2008 - 9:00 pm No Comments

Got another wedding invitation in the mail today. Stuff like that always makes me think of this song, one of my absolute favorite songs. Depending on the situation, it could either be a happy song or a sad song. White Ladder is also one of my favorite CDs to listen to all the way. It’s great for just chilling out. I wasn’t sure what to categorize this song as, since David Gray is folk-rock, alternative rock, piano, and a little bit of pop. So the wedding invitation was pretty nice, and I don’t know people would waste 2 good stamps to mail one out to me. I already told the couple I would go. The weird thing is that, there’s no choice for dinner on the invitation so either it was mistake or it’s going to be a buffet. There’s still plenty of time for me to consider bringing a date to this wedding, I have to respond by the 30th. I’ll probably just go by myself. Since I know the couple pretty well, I’m pretty sure there will be a lot more single guys than single women (at least, decent single women), but I don’t care. I’ll have fun either way, I rather not feel as if I have to bring someone to this wedding, especially someone I’m not really into or someone that’s just a friend. As many times as I have heard this song, I actually had never seen the video until just now. The video is tragically romantic I supposed with the rain and all. I usually don’t watch music videos, I rather just listen to the song.
